Main opposition Democratic Party(DP) leader Lee Jae-myung has again called on the ruling People Power Party to participate in a bipartisan consultative body to stabilize state affairs a day after being rebuffed.
During a Supreme Council meeting at the National Assembly on Monday, Lee said the ruling party would be free to take the lead in all discussions, regardless of format or content.
In particular, the DP leader stressed that if the formation of a consultative body that oversees the entire government is "burdensome," the PPP should form a consultative body that is limited to the economy and people's livelihoods.
Lee said he understands the current internal situation within the ruling party is challenging, but noted that the purpose of a political party is ultimately to improve the lives of the people.
The comments come as Lee is pushing for the creation of a consultative body with participation from the government and all parties, saying that the PPP is no longer the ruling party.
The PPP has rejected the proposal saying that it's inappropriate for the DP to act as if it is the ruling party.
