President Yoon Suk Yeol has refused to attend questioning by a joint team of the National Office of Investigation(NOI) under the police agency, the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials(CIO) and the defense ministry probing the December 3 martial law decree.
According to the team on Tuesday, the president has not responded to its summons for a questioning session set to begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The team plans to decide on summoning Yoon for the second time after 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The initial summons, sent to the presidential office and Yoon's official residence via mail, either failed to be delivered or was returned.
A delivery attempt in person also fell through.
Seok Dong-hyun, a lawyer involved in Yoon's defense team, told reporters on Tuesday that the president is not expected to appear for questioning on Wednesday.
Should Yoon continue to refuse cooperation in the investigation, the team could consider seeking a warrant to arrest or detain the president.
