President Yoon Suk Yeol has not appeared for questioning in connection with his botched martial law attempt, having apparently ignored a summons from a joint team of investigators from the police, the defense ministry and the country’s anti-corruption agency.
According to law enforcement sources, the joint team earlier sent Yoon a summons asking him to appear for questioning at the government complex in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, but Yoon did not show up.
There was reportedly no request for a postponement, or any contact from Yoon’s side to discuss security issues.
The joint investigation team is reportedly considering whether to send another summons and if so, what method to use.
The initial summons, sent to the presidential office and Yoon’s official residence via mail, either could not be delivered or was returned.
A delivery attempt in person also fell through.
Should Yoon refuse to cooperate in the investigation, the team could consider seeking a warrant to arrest or detain the president.
