The Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO) has arrested the head of the Defense Intelligence Command, Moon Sang-ho, as part of its probe into President Yoon Suk Yeol’s botched martial law attempt.
The CIO said it made the arrest, together with the special police team looking into the martial law incident, at noon Wednesday after getting a warrant for Moon the previous day.
Moon is suspected of sending troops under his command to the office of the National Election Commission(NEC) in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, December 3, after Yoon declared martial law.
Moon is also suspected of discussing ways to secure the NEC’s server with Noh Sang-won, the former leader of the Defense Intelligence Command, whom he met with two subordinates at a hamburger joint in Gyeonggi Province two days prior to the martial law incident.
Police handed Moon’s case over to the CIO after Moon was released from prison on Monday, just a day after police arrested him without a warrant.
Prosecutors had not approved of the police detention of Moon, citing a violation of the Jurisdiction of Military Courts Act.
