South Korea’s intelligence agency says over 100 North Korean troops have been killed in the Russia-Ukraine war.

The National Intelligence Service briefed the parliamentary Intelligence Committee about the latest findings in a closed-door meeting Thursday morning.

After the session, a lawmaker told reporters that at least 100 North Korean soldiers have been killed and around one-thousand more have been injured, according to the intel agency.

Of the estimated eleven thousand North Korean soldiers stationed in the Kursk region, the spy agency told the committee that some joined combat earlier this month.

The spy agency believes the level of injuries among the North Korean soldiers reflects unfamiliarity with the battleground and insufficient training in drone warfare.

It also believes at least one high-ranking North Korean official has been killed in the war, possibly in a training accident or a Ukrainian drone attack.
