A joint team of investigators from the police, the defense ministry and the nation’s anti-corruption body has requested a pretrial detention warrant for the chief of the Defense Intelligence Command, who is accused of taking part in President Yoon Suk Yeol’s botched martial law attempt.

The team said Friday that it filed the request for Moon Sang-ho on suspicion of treason and other offenses.

Moon is suspected of sending troops in his command to the National Election Commission’s office in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, December 3 after Yoon declared martial law.

He is also alleged to have deployed the Headquarters of Intelligence Detachment unit to arrest high-ranking officials and lawmakers.

In addition, Moon is accused of discussing the martial law plans with Noh Sang-won, a former defense intelligence commander, alongside two other subordinates at a burger franchise in Gyeonggi Province two days before Yoon issued the order.
