The special police team looking into the December 3 martial law incident was found on Friday to have grilled Presidential Security Service Chief Park Chong-jun.
According to the police, the team summoned Park for questioning on two occasions recently to reenact his movements, and President Yoon Suk Yeol’s, before and after the president declared martial law.
Having shadowed the president in most of his activities, Park is considered the person with the most detailed information about Yoon’s moves on the night in question.
Police are said to have grilled Park about a meeting Yoon held at a presidential safe house in Seoul’s Jongno District with Police Commissioner General Cho Ji-ho roughly three hours before declaring martial law.
Cho had earlier told investigators that he went to the safe house after Park called him and told him the president wanted to see him.
Police are also looking into a possible link between Park and Noh Sang-won, a former defense intelligence commander who is suspected of planning the martial law incident in advance as a private citizen.
Both Park and Noh worked for the Presidential Security Service during the Park Geun-hye administration.
