The presidential office says the head of the Presidential Security Service(PSS) was unaware of President Yoon Suk Yeol’s plans to declare martial law on December 3, after a police team questioned him as a witness.
The top office said Friday that PSS chief Park Chong-jun contacted Police Commissioner General Cho Ji-ho and Kim Bong-sik, head of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, about a meeting with the president hours before Yoon declared martial law, with no knowledge of what the meeting was about.
It said the head of presidential security was not also present during that meeting.
Stressing that it can not provide further details due to security concerns, the office said Park cooperated faithfully with the interrogation by the team from the National Office of Investigation, under the police.
The police commissioner general reportedly testified to the team earlier that he met with Yoon at the presidential safe house in Seoul’s Jongno District after receiving a call from the security chief.
