The government will not review two parliament-passed bills mandating special counsel investigations into the December 3 insurrection and allegations surrounding first lady Kim Keon-hee during a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
A high-level official at the Prime Minister's Office(PMO) told reporters on Monday that the submission of the two bills is unlikely to take place.
The opposition bloc, led by the main opposition Democratic Party(DP), has threatened to initiate impeachment proceedings against Acting President Han Duck-soo, unless the bills are promulgated by Tuesday.
The government, however, intends to continue to look into requesting the National Assembly to reconsider the bills until the end of the year.
The official said the matter is an "equation of higher degree" that requires a constitutional and legal review.
The official reiterated the PMO's position to discuss political issues, including the special probe bills, at a tripartite consultative body with the rival parties set to launch on Thursday, adding the agenda has yet to be finalized.
