The Cabinet did not review two special counsel bills targeting President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee on Tuesday, defying the opposition party's deadline to promulgate them.

Instead, Acting President Han Duck-soo urged the National Assembly to produce a solution regarding the bills as well as the appointments of three justices to the Constitutional Court.

Presiding over a Cabinet meeting, Han said there are clear limits to what the government can do without the cooperation of the political parties and the understanding of the people.

The acting president stressed the rival parties must begin discussions and negotiations to wisely handle the special counsel bills and the appointments of Constitutional Court justices, which are issues where legal interpretations and political views can be significantly different.

Han said unless the rival parties make great effort to create a fair legal framework that both the investigative authorities and the party being investigated can agree on, there is a great risk that more distrust and hatred will grow within the country.

The acting president added that he sincerely hopes the National Assembly, led by Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, will come up with a solution that complies with the Constitution and related laws.
