The main opposition Democratic Party(DP) announced on Tuesday it will immediately launch the process of impeaching Acting President Han Duck-soo.

DP floor leader Park Chan-dae revealed the decision during a floor leadership meeting at the National Assembly, saying that Han made it clear during a Cabinet meeting that he will not promulgate on Tuesday, as requested, two special counsel bills targeting President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee.

Park said Han’s move "can only be interpreted as an attempt to delay the special probes and prolong the insurrection."

The DP earlier warned that it would hold Han “accountable” if he fails to promulgate the two bills by Tuesday, suggesting that it would take steps to impeach him. 

The DP is expected to decide when to propose a motion to impeach Han through discussions in the afternoon.
