Anchor: The main opposition Democratic Party says it will take steps to oust Acting President Han Duck-soo after he refused to promulgate two special counsel bills targeting President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee. In response, the ruling People Power Party has lambasted the DP's move as an attempt to push for an early presidential election.

Report: The main opposition Democratic Party(DP) announced on Tuesday its plan to impeach Prime Minister and Acting President Han Duck-soo.

The DP’s decision came after Han did not greenlight two special counsel bills targeting President Yoon Suk Yeol and first lady Kim Keon-hee during a Cabinet meeting earlier in the day, going against their demands.

The party plans to propose a motion to impeach Han on Tuesday and report it to a plenary session on Thursday.

The ruling People Power Party(PPP) denounced the DP’s move, calling it an attempt to brand the entire conservative camp as an insurgent group.

The PPP claimed the real reason the DP is seeking Han’s impeachment is to hold a presidential election before a second court ruling is issued for DP leader Lee Jae-myung.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly held a confirmation hearing for Cho Han-chang, the PPP’s pick for Constitutional Court justice without the participation of ruling party lawmakers amid tensions with the opposition.

It was the second day of their boycott after skipping Monday's confirmation hearings for Jeong Gye-seon and Ma Eun-hyeok, the justice nominees recommended by the main opposition.
