The Prime Minister's Office(PMO) expressed "strong regret" over the opposition's push to seek impeachment of Acting President Han Duck-soo after its demands to promulgate bills on special probes into the December 3 insurrection and first lady Kim Keon-hee were not met.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, a high-level official from the PMO said he expects the opposition to carefully consider the matter moving forward.
The official emphasized that the international community, including the U.S. and Japan, have expressed support for leadership under the acting president, and that the domestic economy has been managed sustainably based on such trust.
The official said the special probe bills, which the main opposition Democratic Party(DP) is demanding to be promulgated, contain unconstitutional and unlawful elements.
At a meeting with reporters on the same day, Policy Coordination Minister Bang Ki-sun said the government will address the two bills based on the Constitution and the law, rather than politics, and give priority to the nation's future and the people in making its decision.
