Opposition parties plan to pass motions to appoint three Constitutional Court justices at a plenary session of the National Assembly on Thursday.

The main opposition Democratic Party(DP) and other minor opposition parties intend to table the motions and put them to a vote at the session.

The National Assembly's Special Committee on Personnel Hearings conducted confirmation hearings for Ma Eun-hyuk, Jeong Gye-seon, and Cho Han-chang on Monday and Tuesday, before adopting reports on the hearings.

The ruling People Power Party(PPP) boycotted the hearings, arguing that Acting President Han Duck-soo lacks the authority to appoint the Constitutional Court justices recommended by the Assembly.

Despite this, the motions are expected to pass in the opposition-controlled Assembly.

The DP has insisted that the acting president must appoint the nominees promptly once the motions are approved, warning that it will take steps to impeach Han if he fails to comply.
