Main opposition Democratic Party(DP) Chairman Lee Jae-myung stressed on Friday that the only way to normalize the country is to "quickly root out the insurrection forces."

The DP chair made the remarks in a statement to the nation at the National Assembly, calling President Yoon Suk Yeol and "the remnants of his insurrection" the “the biggest threat" to the country.

Lee said that suppressing the insurrection is the only way to stabilize state affairs, overcome the economic crisis, and restore people's livelihoods.

The DP chair also strongly criticized Acting President Han Duck-soo for refusing to finalize the appointments of three Constitutional Court justices appointed by the National Assembly, calling it an act that violates the Constitution. 

Lee accused forces supporting Yoon’s martial law attempt of increasing economic uncertainties and pushing the already difficult lives of the people into the abyss, citing the plunging value of the local currency. 

The DP chair then reaffirmed the main opposition's plan to pass a motion to impeach the acting president in a plenary session on Friday afternoon.
