The National Assembly has passed a motion giving consent to the appointment of Supreme Court justice nominee Ma Yong-joo. 

The bill was passed in a 186-five vote with two abstentions during a plenary session on Friday.

The ruling People Power Party boycotted the vote on the motion. 

The vote came a day after opposition party lawmakers on the National Assembly's Special Committee on Personnel Hearings unilaterally adopted a confirmation hearing report on Ma.
