Finance Minister Choi Sang-mok, who has assumed the role of acting president after the impeachment of Prime Minister Han Duck-soo on Friday, is set to receive policy briefings from each ministry.
According to the finance ministry on Saturday, Choi will spend his second day on the job checking up on key issues and tasks for each ministry, without any official events.
After assuming acting presidency on Friday, Choi first spoke with the Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) Chairman Kim Myung-soo on the phone, where he urged the military to stay on high alert against North Korea's provocation.
Choi also issued a written order for Acting Defense Minister Kim Seon-ho to enhance the readiness posture of the military to prevent any gap in national security and public safety, and to prepare for an immediate response to all crisis situations.
The acting president ordered Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul to maintain a close communication channel with countries of major concern, including Japan and China, based on the firm South Korea-U.S. alliance, and to inform countries through diplomatic missions that Seoul's policy direction remains unchanged.
