Report: A Jeju Air plane carrying 175 passengers and six crew members crash-landed at Muan International Airport in South Korea at 9:03 a.m. Sunday and collided with a concrete wall after veering off the runway.

The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames.

A total of 179 aboard flight 7C 2216 are confirmed dead, while only two flight attendants were rescued from the separated tail section of the plane.

Many victims were thrown out of the broken fuselage, according to rescue authorities.

The officials said the fuselage was mostly destroyed and it is difficult to identify the dead.

Shortly before the crash, birds got caught in the plane’s engine, according to officials who spoke with a rescued flight attendant.

In video footage that KBS obtained, the plane’s landing gear also appears to have failed to deploy as it approached the runway just before the crash-landing.

However, the exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined.

Jeju Air flight 7C 2216 departed from Bangkok carrying 173 South Korean passengers, two Thai passengers and six crew members.

Jeju Air CEO Kim E-bae issued an apology after the crash.

In a statement posted on the low-cost airline’s website, Kim said he extended his deepest condolences to the victims and their families, adding that he felt a profound sense of responsibility for the crash, regardless of the cause.
