A legal representative for President Yoon Suk Yeol says the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO), which requested an arrest warrant for Yoon on Monday, has no legal authority to do so.

Lawyer Yun Gap-geun made the remarks Monday and added that the president’s camp will respond officially. 

The president’s side claims that both the CIO and the prosecution lack the legal authority to investigate him on suspicion of treason. 

A joint team of investigators from the CIO and the police filed the warrant request with the Seoul Western District Court at 12 a.m. Monday, as President Yoon is under suspicion of treason and abuse of power.
