Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul has sent his condolences to all the bereaved families of those who died in Sunday’s airplane crash at Muan International Airport.

On his X account on Monday, Cho said the tragic plane crash left the nation in utter shock and profound sadness.

The minister said hearts have been torn apart by the loss of so many lives, mentioning the two Thai nationals who died in the tragedy.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra also offered her condolences on X, saying she has ordered the Thai foreign ministry to assist the bereaved families and report back to her on a regular basis.

The Thai Embassy in Seoul said it has asked the Office of the Prime Minister in Bangkok to fly the national flag at half-staff for one week until Saturday.

The Jeju Air plane, traveling from Bangkok to Muan carrying 175 passengers and six crew members, burst into flames after belly-landing and crashing into a wall shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday.

Only two crew members survived.
