The Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO) said Tuesday that the arrest warrant issued for President Yoon Suk Yeol specified the allegation of treason, and that the CIO has not decided when to execute the warrant.

A CIO official made the remarks to reporters after the Seoul Western District Court approved the warrant earlier in the day.

A joint team of investigators from the CIO, the police and the defense ministry filed a warrant request the previous day, accusing Yoon of treason and abuse of power in relation to his botched martial law move on December 3.

The CIO official said the court’s decision to issue the warrant counters Yoon’s claim that the CIO has no legal authority to investigate the president on suspicion of treason.

The CIO plans to arrest Yoon and question him at the government complex in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province, before placing him in a detention facility in the province.

The warrant is valid until Monday and can be extended with the court’s approval.

The CIO also requested a search warrant for multiple locations.

The CIO plans to discuss ways to obtain support in executing the warrants both from the National Office of Investigation, under the national police agency, and the riot police.

It will also send an official document to the Presidential Security Service to warn the agency that blocking the execution of a warrant constitutes obstruction of official duties.
