President Yoon Suk Yeol’s legal defense team says the warrant for the president’s arrest is illegal and invalid.
 
Lawyer Yun Gap-geun delivered a statement to that effect Tuesday, an hour after the Seoul Western District Court issued the warrant in response to a request from the Corruption Investigation Office for High-Ranking Officials(CIO). 

The lawyer called it “surprising and unacceptable” that the court granted the warrant on request from an investigative body with no authority to investigate treason cases.

He also said the search warrant issued in the same case is illegal and invalid.

The lawyer called it “very regrettable” that the CIO filed its request with the Seoul Western District Court instead of the Seoul Central District Court, where the president’s trial is expected to take place.
