The main opposition Democratic Party has called for the immediate arrest of President Yoon Suk Yeol after a court issued an arrest warrant Tuesday. 

Rep. Kim Yong-min, the party’s deputy floor leader for policy, made the appeal to the investigative authorities on Tuesday during a meeting of the party’s floor leadership, saying people are equal before the law and the president should not be an exception.

Accusing Yoon of treason, Kim said the president has not reflected on his crimes at all and that the process of executing the warrant and carrying out the investigation could be very difficult.

The opposition party also asked finance minister and acting President Choi Sang-mok as well as the ruling People Power Party to cooperate with the process. 

The opposition party’s chief policymaker, Jin Sung-joon, asked the acting president to order the Presidential Security Service and other organizations to actively cooperate with the investigation into Yoon’s case.

Jin also urged Choi to immediately promulgate special counsel bills targeting Yoon and first lady Kim Keon-hee.
