A court has started reviewing a special counsel team’s request for a warrant to detain former first lady Kim Keon-hee over a string of corruption and financial crime allegations.

The Seoul Central District Court began a detention warrant hearing in the case at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday.

Special counsel Min Joong-ki’s team sent eight officials to the hearing, while Kim attended along with three lawyers.

Min’s team requested the warrant Thursday, accusing Kim of bribery offenses and violations of the Capital Markets Act, the Political Funds Act and other laws.

The team made the request after questioning Kim over allegations that she played a role in a stock price manipulation scheme, meddled in election nominations, and accepted bribes in exchange for business favors.

The court’s decision is expected Tuesday night or in the early hours of Wednesday.
