U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio says the United States looks forward to working with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and his administration to advance the “ironclad” bilateral alliance.

Rubio made the remark in a press statement on Wednesday, two days ahead of the 80th anniversary of Korea’s liberation from Japanese colonial rule, as he commemorated the national day by extending his congratulations to the Korean people on behalf of the U.S. government.

The U.S. top diplomat said that as “indispensable” allies, the two nations will continue working together to expand prosperity and confront the most pressing global security challenges.

Rubio said that for over 70 years, the United States and South Korea have forged an alliance based on shared values and mutual interests.

He added that the United States is proud to stand with South Korea, which has flourished as a resilient democracy and valued economic partner.
