Former first lady Kim Keon-hee has submitted a handwritten statement saying she will not attend questioning by the special counsel on Wednesday, citing poor health.

The special counsel team disclosed the development on Tuesday and said a new summons will be issued for Thursday.

Kim, currently in detention, was previously questioned Thursday and again Monday over allegations of interference in party nominations and involvement in the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation case, but largely refused to answer questions.

The team said the questioning remains insufficient and her detention may need to be extended to continue the investigation.
