The pretrial detention of former first lady Kim Keon-hee has been extended until the end of the month.

Special counsel Min Joong-ki’s team said Wednesday in a press notice that a court has extended Kim’s detention until August 31.

Kim was placed under pretrial detention at the Seoul Southern Detention Center on Tuesday last week on suspicion of violating the Capital Markets Act and other laws.

Detention of a suspect is generally limited to ten days, but the detention period can be extended once.

Min’s team plans to continue its investigation into allegations against Kim while she is in custody, before indicting her.

Kim was summoned for questioning on Wednesday but submitted a notice saying she would be absent due to health reasons.
