KITA Nominates Ambassador Han Duck-soo as next Chairman

The Korea International Trade Association has unanimously nominated South Korean Ambassador to the U.S., Han Duck-soo, as its next chairman and chief executive.

The association made the nomination Friday during a meeting at the Grand Intercontinental Hotel in Seoul. Han will be replacing current KITA chief Sakong Il.

The association backed its nomination citing Han’s global leadership experience, saying he is cut out to expand South Korea’s economic territory through FTAs, which serve as growth engines for the nation.

KITA will confirm Han’s appointment during a general meeting next Wednesday.

Ambassador Han Duck-soo has served as finance minister and prime minister in the past. He has been working as the Korean ambassador to the U.S. since 2009.
