A UN diplomat reportedly said that North Korea maintained and developed its nuclear and ballistic missile programs throughout 2020 in violation of international sanctions.

Reuters issued the report on Monday quoting a UN diplomat with knowledge of a confidential report submitted to UN Security Council members that day.

The annual report by independent sanctions monitors reportedly said that North Korea "produced fissile material, maintained nuclear facilities and upgraded its ballistic missile infrastructure.”

It also said the North continued to seek material and technology for those programs from abroad.

The UN diplomat reportedly said that while there were no nuclear or ballistic missile tests in 2020, Pyongyang did announce preparations for testing and production of new ballistic missile warheads and the development of tactical nuclear weapons.
