The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reportedly approved Johnson & Johnson's single-dose coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.

According to the Associated Press and AFP, the FDA on Saturday accepted its advisory committee's recommendation of the vaccine for emergency use authorization.

The independent advisory panel of infectious disease experts, doctors and scientists reportedly voted unanimously on Friday to recommend the COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use for Americans aged 18 and older.

Johnson & Johnson's vaccine is the third vaccine granted an emergency use authorization in the United States behind those from Pfizer and Moderna.
