South Korea has decided to bring in AstraZeneca vaccines for about one million people by May through the UN-backed global vaccine supply project, COVAX Facility.

Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said on Friday in a government meeting that AstraZeneca vaccines for a total of one-point-05 million people will be supplied for the country in the first half of this year through COVAX Facility.

Chung said doses for about 350-thousand people will be brought in during March, with doses for 700-thousand people to arrive over the following two months.

The prime minister ordered the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency to adjust the vaccination schedule to ensure that as many people as possible could receive the vaccines during the first half.

He added the government will make its best efforts to secure the early arrival of the vaccines.
