President Moon Jae-in has stressed the need to smoothly carry out the government’s plan to supply some 830-thousand new homes nationwide over the next four years.

Moon made the call during a meeting at the presidential office on Tuesday while saying that trust in the government’s housing supply plan must not be rattled because of the ongoing land speculation scandal at a state housing development corporation.

Moon said the plan that was unveiled on February 4 must continue without a glitch, stressing that supply efforts must gain speed.

The plan aims to ease building regulations and support redevelopment projects in major cities to construct up to 836-thousand new homes nationwide, with 323-thousand in Seoul, over the next four years.

The goal is to curb soaring housing prices by increasing the supply, rather than toughening regulations.
