South Korean figure skater Kim Chae-yeon won a surprise silver medal at her ISU Junior Grand Prix debut on Friday.

The fifteen-year-old from Gyeonggi Provice scored her personal-best of 124-point-56 points in the free skate event held in Courchevel, France on Friday.

She scored 66-point-9 points, also her personal-best, in the short skate on Thursday. A combined score of 191-point-46 points in the short and free skate events put Kim in second place after Isabeau Levito from the U.S.

Kim is the third South Korean figure skater to win a medal in her first ISU Junior Grand Prix, preceded only by Olympic champion Kim Yu-na, who won gold in 2004, and Park Yeon-jeong, who won the silver in 2019.

Her fellow South Korean skaters Ji Seo-yeon and Yun Ah-sun finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
