Dining in at highway rest stops will be banned from Friday ahead of the five-day Chuseok holiday with travelers headed to their hometowns.
According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the government will enhance quarantine measures for travelers for six days from Friday to next Wednesday.
All highway rest stops will discontinue eat-in services for the period and will only serve takeaway as part of efforts to minimize the spread of COVID-19.
Entrance and exits at rest stops will be separated to minimize contact and customers must register in a visitor log. Additionally, the government will operate temporary COVID-19 testing centers at nine stops during the holiday.
Highway toll fees, usually suspended during Chuseok and Lunar New Year, will be collected as usual Monday through Wednesday as the government seeks to minimize traffic during the holiday.
Meanwhile, according to the Korea Transport Institute, traffic out of Seoul is expected to be slowest on Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon for returning cars.
