KDCA Reports 2,289 COVID-19 Cases on Tuesday

Nearly 23-hundred COVID-19 cases were reported on Tuesday amid a surge in infections after the Chuseok holiday.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said on Tuesday that two-thousand-289 new infections were detected throughout the previous day, raising the country's accumulated caseload to 305-thousand-842.

The tally marks the fifth highest figure and the largest Tuesday figure since the outbreak of the pandemic. The previous high for Tuesday was one-thousand-729 reported last week.

Of the new cases, two-thousand-270 were local transmissions, while 19 were from overseas.

The greater metro area accounted for 73-point-nine percent of local cases, reporting one-thousand-678. Non-capital areas added 592 cases, taking up 26-point-one percent of local cases.

Eight more deaths have been reported, bringing the death toll to two-thousand-464. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-81 percent. The number of critically ill patients rose by five from the previous day to 324.
