Health authorities are exploring the possibility of extending eligibility for a COVID-19 vaccine pass to those who are fully recovered from a coronavirus infection.

In answering a question on Wednesday, senior Health Ministry official Son Young-rae referred to overseas cases where benefits are given for a short time for people who have recuperated from COVID-19 or tested negative though they are unvaccinated.

The government is deliberating its system of living with COVID-19 versus the current system which focuses on suppressing new infections.

When South Korea adopts the system, chances are high that those who are unvaccinated will be restricted entry to multipurpose facilities and public events, unless they have a document to prove that they tested negative on a PCR test, the official added.

Son said there is a need to consider giving exemptions to minors as well as they are not eligible for the nationwide vaccination program.
