The government says it will open to the public ten hiking trail courses near the Demilitarized Zone(DMZ), starting from May 13.

The government announced on Tuesday that the ten courses of the DMZ Peace Trail will be open to the public as part of efforts to foster areas near the DMZ as global tourism attractions and to revitalize such areas’ economies.

According to the government, visitors will be able to experience the ecosystems, culture and historical resources that can only be seen in areas near the DMZ.

The ten courses comprise of Ganghwa in Incheon as well as Gimpo, Goyang, Paju and Yeoncheon in Gyeonggi Province, in addition to Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Yanggu, Inje and Goseong in Gangwon Province.

In each course, visitors will mostly travel by car for safety reasons and to protect various wildlife. In some sections, visitors will be able to travel by foot with cooperation from military units.
