New COVID-19 Cases Rise above 80,000

New COVID-19 cases rose above 80-thousand on Tuesday amid the winter resurgence of the virus.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency(KDCA) said on Tuesday that 81-thousand-56 infections were reported throughout Monday, including 63 from overseas, bringing the country's cumulative caseload to about 29 million-220-thousand.

The daily figure more than tripled from the previous day as more people took tests after the weekend. However, the figure dropped by 65-hundred from a week ago and six-thousand from two week ago, continuing the on-week decline.

The number of seriously or critically ill patients is down by 17 from the previous day to 620, topping 600 for the third consecutive day. 

Monday added 29 deaths, raising the cumulative toll to 32-thousand-301. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-11 percent.
