New COVID-19 Cases at 16,624

New COVID-19 cases fell below 20-thousand amid a slowdown in the latest wave of infections.

The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) said on Sunday that 16-thousand-624 infections were reported throughout the previous day, bringing the country's cumulative caseload to nearly 30 million. Of the total cases, 70 were imported.

The daily tally dropped by over ten-thousand from a day ago and some 16-thousand from a week ago.

For a Sunday tally, it is the lowest figure in 15 weeks.

The number of seriously or critically ill patients being treated at hospitals was 460, up by 24 from the previous day.

Saturday added 24 deaths, raising the cumulative death toll to 33-thousand-209. The fatality rate stands at zero-point-11 percent.
