The 2022 Asian Para Games officially kicked off on Sunday evening after a year-long delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The game’s opening ceremony was held at the lotus-shaped Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium in China.

Under the theme “Hearts Meet, Dreams Shine,” the event will run through Saturday with some three-thousand athletes from more than 40 countries vying to win gold in some 560 events across 22 sports.

Led by two flag bearers, taekwondo athlete Joo Jeong-hun and goalball athlete Kim Hee-jin, the South Korean delegation was the 15th to march into the stadium.

Team Korea has sent 345 athletes and officials to Hangzhou to compete in 21 sports with the aim of finishing fourth in the overall medal tally.
