The medals that will be given out at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics have been revealed.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the games’ organizing committee held a ceremony in Seoul on Thursday unveiling the gold, silver and bronze medals that athletes from around the world will seek to grab.
A similar unveiling ceremony was also held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York attended by President Moon Jae-in who is visiting the Big Apple to attend the UN General Assembly.
In line with the tradition of the games, the Olympic rings have been inscribed on the front of the medal while the PyeongChang games’ emblem and the individual sporting event is on the back.
The side of the medal has the words “PyeongChang Olympics two-thousand-eighteen” in Hangeul with a three-dimensional effect.
The ribbon that will be tied to the medal is made of fine gauze used in making traditional hanbok.
