Ahn Cheol-soo Elected as People's Party's Presidential Candidate

Former chief of the People’s Party Ahn Cheol-soo has been elected the party’s candidate for the May ninth presidential election.

Ahn won 75 percent of the votes in the seven rounds of the party’s primary which started on March 25th, clinching the party’s nomination for the upcoming presidential election.

Former opposition leader Sohn Hak-kyu came in second with 18 percent, followed by Deputy National Assembly Speaker Park Joo-sun with six-point-nine percent.

In the seventh and final round of the primary in Daejeon on Tuesday, Ahn secured 85-point-four percent of the on-site votes. Sohn won 12-point-four percent, and Park garnered two-point-three percent. The former party chairman securing 84-point-two percent of support in polls.

The party elected its presidential candidate reflecting on-site votes 80 percent and public opinion polls 20 percent.
