Swimmer Park Tae-hwan Leaves for Training in US for Rio Olympics

[News] l 2016-07-17

South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan, who managed to win a legal battle to compete in the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics, has left to attend at training camp in the United States.

Park and his team on Sunday departed for Orlando, Florida, where there is a one-hour time difference with Rio.

Australian coach Duncan Todd and a former member of the Australian national swimming team will help Park as coach and training partner.

Park will compete in the men’s freestyle 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter and 1,500 meter in Rio. He will arrive in Brazil on July 31st.

In early July, the Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that Park is eligible to compete in the upcoming Rio games and lifted a Korean Olympic Committee ban imposed on the swimmer based on his doping history.

Park, who tested positive for testosterone in October 2014, served an 18-month ban that started retroactively in September 2014 and ended in March this year.
