N. Korea Unveils Law on Developing Economic Zones with China

North Korea has belatedly unveiled contents of its law enacted two years ago on jointly developing with China special economic zones in Hwanggeumpyeong and Wihwa island.

The North’s state-run Korean Central News Agency unveiled on its Web site on Wednesday the full text of the law, made up of seven chapters and 74 clauses. The agency said the law had been enacted on December third 2011 under orders from the Supreme People’s Assembly’s Standing Committee.

However, the news agency did not say why it was belatedly revealing the law’s full text.

Some observers say the North apparently made the latest move to demonstrate to the world that the joint development projects will be carried out despite the execution of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s uncle, Jang Song-thaek, who had close ties with China.
