A popular winter festival opened on Friday in the mountainous area of Pyeongchang, Gangwon Province.
 
The Daewallyeong Snow Festival will feature a number of events over ten days, including a marathon, mountain climbing contest and arts and literary programs.
 
Nearby Songcheon will hold activities for children such as ice sledding, bobsledding and top spinning. A traditional marketplace will also serve local cuisine of tofu, buckwheat pancakes and dried pollock dishes.
 
At the Alpensia Convention Center, a Chinese arts and cultural exhibition will be held Saturday and Sunday showcasing works of famed artists and calligraphers.
