Korean Bishops Organization Invites Pope to S. Korea

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea says it is waiting for a reply from the Vatican after inviting Pope Francis to South Korea.

The conference said if the pope decides to come, he will likely in August or October this year to attend one of two major Catholic events.

In August, the sixth Asian Youth Day will be held in Daejeon. In October, a ceremony to beatify 124 Korean Catholic martyrs may be held in Korea.

The Holy See is now reviewing the cause for the beatification of Paul Yun Ji-chung and his 123 companions who were tortured and killed for their faith more than 200 years ago. Bishop Kang Woo-il, the head of the conference, said the Vatican has hinted the beatification ceremony might be held in the fall of 2014.
