The Education Ministry says it will help 100 schools establish students' orchestras this year.

The ministry will provide 70 million won a year for the selected schools to purchase instruments and pay instructors.

The ministry also plans to provide five million won in operational expenses for 550 schools that already have their own orchestras.

The ministry started a project to support students’ orchestras in 2011 in order to teach music to elementary, middle and high school students in less privileged areas.

About one-thousand-50 schools will receive state support under the project, including 650 schools to be selected this year.
