S. Korea to Complete New Data System This Week for Gaeseong Entry

South Korea will finish building a new data transfer system this week at its joint factory park in North Korea to make coming and going from the facility easier.

In a news briefing Monday, Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Eui-do said the stability of the radio frequency identification (RFID) system will be monitored for one or two weeks after it is installed at the Gaeseong Industrial Complex.

The ministry said the system would permit South Korean factory managers to visit the complex and return home at any time on days they are allowed to cross the border.

The current system requires Seoul to fax a list of names a day before the South Koreans travel to the North, and they are only allowed to cross the border at a designated time.

The spokesman said South Korea will consult with North Korea whether to hold a ceremony to mark the use of the system.
