Yeom Vows to Heal Conflict and Division

The archbishop of Seoul, Andrew Yeom Soo-jung, has vowed to work toward healing division and conflict.

Yeom made the remarks at the Myeongdong Cathedral where a ceremony was held to celebrate his appointment as a cardinal on Sunday by Pope Francis.

He said he will make efforts to foster a church that caters to the impoverished and isolated.

He also said he plans to pursue reconciliation and coexistence and contribute to promoting a community where all generations can come together as one.

In a congratulatory address, Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk said the new appointment seems to reflect the rise of Korea and the Korean church around the world.

The seventy-one-year-old Yeom is expected to officially be appointed on February 22nd and become Korea's third Cardinal after the late Cardinal Stephen Kim Sou-hwan and Cardinal Nicholas Cheong Jin-suk.
