Written: 2003-02-18 00:00:00Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The Justice Ministry says foreigners who have rendered meritorious service to Korea, such as former head coach of the national soccer team, Guus Hiddink, will be accorded permanent residence in South Korea. The ministry said it would revise a decree implementing Immigration Law so that such foreign citizens may be granted permanent residence. Foreigners with permanent residence will have the same treatment afforded to Koreans with permanent residence in foreign countries based on the principle of reciprocity. Foreigners seeking permanent residence will also be allowed to maintain their own citizenship.
